Vic: Funding boost for elite athletes

MELBOURNE, April 18 AAP - The state government today announced a $1.5 million fundingboost for the Victorian Institute of Sport.

Sports Minister Justin Madden said the one-off grant was to help local athletes maximisetheir potential in the lead-up to the 2004 Olympics in Athens and the 2006 CommonwealthGames in Victoria.

The funding will go towards paying specialist coaches and technical staff to improvesports medicine and dietary programs for elite athletes.
