SA: Astronomer discovers massive collision in space
ADELAIDE, Feb 9 AAP - An Australian astronomer has discovered evidence of one of the
most cataclysmic events since the creation of the universe, a collision in space of two
clusters of galaxies.
PHd student Melanie Johnston-Hollitt, 26, has found the ripples in space left by the
collision which occurred 700 million light years from earth and more than four billion
years ago.
Using a CSIRO telescope at Narrabri in New South Wales, the Adelaide University student
studied the Abell 3667 galaxy cluster and found that it had run into or merged with …
