Staley Continental, subject of a $1.3 billion takeover attempt,apparently decided not to decide at a corporate board meetingTuesday.
British-based Tate & Lyle PLC, that nation's leading sugarrefiner, last Friday began the unsolicited tender offer of $32 pershare. Rolling Meadows-based Staley, the second-largest U.S. sugarrefiner, told its shareholders to retain their shares until its boardcould determine a response and promised to do so on or before April21.
Staley closed Tuesday at $36.75, unchanged, but 75 cents a sharelower than on the day the tender offer was announced. There has beensome speculation Staley could command a $40-a-share value, but …
