Fed: Costello to represent Australia at Gallipoli
Treasurer PETER COSTELLO is planning an Anzac Day pilgrimage to Gallipoli this yeardespite heightened security fears because of the war in Iraq.
A spokesman for the treasurer says Mr COSTELLO plans to represent the Australian governmentat the Gallipoli dawn service, as long as security concerns allow it.
Mr COSTELLO will travel on to Paris to address a major conference organised by theOrganisation of Economic Cooperation and Development.
Fears of reprisals for Australia's involvement in the war have prompted the federalgovernment to ask Turkey to boost security at Gallipoli for Anzac Day ceremonies laterthis month.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has strengthened its travel warning for Turkey, advisingAustralians to exercise a high degree of caution in that country.
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD has urged visitors to take very great care when travellingto the peninsula.
