Qld: Teenage girl dies after taking ecstasy with boyfriend

An 18-year old girl has died .. and her boyfriend taken to hospital .. after the pair
took the illicit drug ecstasy while on an overnight fishing trip on the Gold Coast.

The couple swallowed several ecstasy tablets while they were fishing at an isolated
spot on Jabiru Island .. off the Gold Coast .. last night.

The girl died about 5am (AEST) today .. despite the efforts of paramedics.

The 17-year-old boy was treated at the Gold Coast Hospital .. but has since been released.

Police say the case will be referred to the coroner.
